Mission Statement:  We at Thames River Magnet School, Believe in ourselves, Engage and explore, Learn from each other, Open our minds and hearts, Never give up, and Grow together!

Dear Thames River Magnet School Families,

Welcome back to Thames River Magnet School! We are thrilled to start another amazing year of learning, making new friends, and creating new experiences that connect to environmental and marine sciences. We continue to partner with Project Oceanology through yearlong project based lessons and field work, with New England Science and Sailing (NESS) as we will be welcoming in two new Americorp Representatives, and with Mystic Aquarium for our Terrific Turtle program.
Speaking of turtles, Brook and River, our school's turtles, have had a super summer! They have enjoyed seeing all of the campers, who were at TR for City Park and Recreation Camp. Also, a huge thank you to Mr. Sabilia, who helped to make their tank sparkle. We will continue to have students help feed Brook and River this year, and I will be continuing to visit classrooms with them. Additionally, Ms. Rotner, Magnet Coordinator and Enrichment Teacher, will be expanding our recycling and composting utilizing our greenhouse and outdoor garden spaces. Another huge thank you to all of the families who volunteered time over the summer to water the garden beds. They flourished because of the incredible help!

Our supportive TRMS PTO was a huge help last year for our students and teachers. They definitely are in need of additional parents/caregivers to join PTO.  We hope you might consider joining PTO and/or willing to volunteer for various events. It does not take a lot of time, but it sure does have a super impact upon our school.  If you are interested in learning more, please email the PTO at: thamesriverpto@gmail.com. All are welcome!
We will continue to use ParentSquare as the main source of communication. Teachers will use it for classroom happenings. Our School Secretaries and I will be sending posts, emails, and alerts in the form of text messages, emails, and/or phone calls to make sure you are up-to-date on school happenings. We also will be expanding volunteer opportunities this year using ParentSquare. Teachers will be sending home more information on how to volunteer to best meet the needs of  their classrooms.
Thank you in advance for all of your support, dedication, and commitment in making this year an amazing year at Thames River Magnet School!  I hope to see you all at our Meet and Greet on August 29 from 10:30 to 11:30am. [Please see important information at the bottom of this posts.]

Sincerely,
Jamie Giordano, Principal
Ada Allen, Assistant Principal
